Not many places on earth have such a high concentration of sights, eateries and shopping in one location as Sultanahmet.  This district was the heart of both the Byzantium and Ottoman Empires and due to this cultural past is filled with many grand buildings and places of worship including the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern and Topkapi Palace.  The Grand Bazaar is located in Sultanahmet and is a great place to wander around for a few hours and inevitably get lost, but that is half the fun.  This is historical Istanbul, a place where you will find how the city was and what makes it unique.  With so much to see in this district alone, including some of Istanbul's most impressive sights, Sultanahmet makes the perfect base from which to explore Istanbul.
